ICARUS Lecture #4: Portal presentation “Topotheque”

On February 3rd, 2022 ICARUS Online Lecture #4 “Topotheque – our memories” took place, starting a series of ICARUS Portal Presentations!

Alexander Schatek, initiator of the Topotheque described the features, potential and making of a Topotheque, as an online archive, operated in local entities.

Topotheques aim at preserving historical material kept in private hands, but making it visible to the public. Focusing on every-day life and local sources, Topotheques become a relevant regional historical source in short time.

Vlatka Lemić, President of ICARUS Croatia, shared her experiences with several Topotheques she contributed to launch. Developing a Topotheque allows the involvement of local communities in a citizen science project, augments memory’s institutions visibility and helps to enhance information technology skills through the digitizing process.

The session was held in English and is available on ICARUS YouTube channel.

Next ICARUS Online event will take place on February 22nd, with Jour Fixe #3 hosted by Birgit Kibal, National Archives of Estonia.
