Lecture series “Archive topics” – All about university archives!
Organized by ICARUS HR, the University of Zagreb and ICARUS within the EU-funded project co:op, this first lecture in a series of lectures yet to come on “Archive topics” intents to inform archivists and information professionals, experts in the cultural, scientific and educational institutions, students and the academic community, and anyone else interested in contemporary international trends, projects and practices in the world of archives.
Keynote speaker Dr. Anne J. Gilliland is Professor and Director of the Archival Studies specialization in the Department of Information Studies, Director of the Center for Information as Evidence, Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, and a faculty affiliate of the Center for Digital Humanities at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She is also the director of the Archival Education and Research Initiative (AERI), a global collaborative effort amongst academic institutions that seeks to promote state-of-the-art in scholarship in Archival Studies.

European history online: Hungaricana and more
The second lecture of the series “Archive Topics” is dedicated to the new national portal of Hungarian archives, libraries, museums and other cultural institutions and the online portal of historical maps of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Archivists and information specialists, historians and researchers, experts in cultural, scientific and educational institutions, students and academics and all who are interested in contemporary international trends, projects and practices in the archival world can meet new opportunities for cooperation and development of common information infrastructure at this event.
- Sándor Biszak will present MAPIRE – the Historical Maps of the Habsburg Empire.
- Csaba T. Reisz (National Archives of Hungary) will introduce the Hingarian Cultural Heritage Poprtal – Hungaricana.
This lecture of the lecture series “Archive Topics” is dedicated to the Slovenian e-archives project e-ARH.si. The project e-ARH.si is founded by European Union within the framework of the Operative Programme Competitiveness and cohesion 2014-2020 and it’s run by the Slovenian government and all public archives.
Experts from the Archives of Republic of Slovenia will present strategies, plans and activities regarding the development and implementation of e-archives in the Slovenian public archives service. The programme is open to the public and will be held in University Computer Centre in Zagreb, starting at 10 am.

ICARUS and its corporate partner XpectralTEK (Portugal) organize a workshop focused on the current spectral imaging technology used in active and preventive art conservation. The basic principles of spectral imaging will be explained, and the available technological solutions demonstrated and explained. Potential applications on cultural heritage will be presented from real case studies, and the future perspectives will be discussed.
The workshop will be held in English and aims at professionals in the field of museums, archives, libraries and conservation of cultural heritage in general.

Der zweite Kulturhackathon für Österreich folgt dem Prinzip „Öffnet eure Daten und seid kreativ damit!“ Wir widmen uns vom 20. bis zum 22. September 2018 einem spannenden, sensiblen, interessanten und explosiven kulturellen Erbe.
Wir bekommen Zugang zu Material, welches oft verborgen liegt, jedoch in die Öffentlichkeit dringen möchte, um wahrgenommen und gesehen zu werden! Dem entspricht auch das heurige Motto „Bunkers, Bombs and Big Data“. Wir werden sehen, wie explosiv und wertvoll Daten sein können, wenn wir sie aktivieren!
Der Kulturhackathon möchte kulturelles Erbe zugänglich machen. Es soll den Menschen nahe gebracht werden und ihre Lebensqualität erhöhen. Gesucht werden Start-ups, die Innovatives erzeugen, um der Bevölkerung den Wert kulturellen Erbes und seine Verwertung näher zu bringen. Institutionen vernetzen sich und interdisziplinäre Kooperationen entstehen.

Within the frameworks of the EU-funded project “community as opportunity” (co:op) the complete stock of documents of the Monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg (DE) at the Archives of the Bavarian State in Munich (DE) has been digitised: ca. 4500 charters from the year 194 to about 1800 will soon be available online. By taking the example of this corpus of source material, the workshop intends to bring together research questions and technical exploitation models.

The OCR webinar will present Optical Character Recognition technology as a tool by which archival processes with digitized material can be multiplied or even automated at minimal cost and while maintaining or improving the quality of the results obtained. The lecture will be held on Croatian by two ICARUS Croatia members: Željko Trbušić, archivist at the Department of the History of Croatian Literature of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts and prof. Hrvoje Stančić, Chair of Department of Archival and Documentary Studies at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb.
