International Conference „Archives of Religious Communities in Croatia – Practical Experiences and Perspectives“

The conference raises questions on management, preservation and dissemniation of the archival holdings of religious communities in Croatia and invites participants to actively take part in the scientific and professional debate from the standpoint of archivists, as well as from the humanities, social studies and other interdisciplinary scientific fields.

Thematic areas:

  • the evaluation of archival holdings of religious communities
  • the role of public archival service in the preservation and dissemination of archival holdings of religious communities
  • the implementation of professional standards in the preservation and dissemination of archival holdings of religious communities
  • European experiences regarding the management and preservation of archival holdings of religious communities

The conference aims to provide guidelines for the preservation of the archival holdings within particular religious communities, standards and models for professional management of the archives within religious communities, as well as professional interaction and cooperation with public archival service.

Future in the past: Bulgarian history growing online

Within the ENArC project the activities of linking neighbourhoods – that is continuously expanding its network of institutions – holds a special position as it is one of the maximes of ICARUS.  As ENArC project partner  from Serbia, the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts cooperates with the Institute for Literature of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences as their neighbours for this conference. The conference will be held in S0fia and serves two purposes:

  1. show intermediate results of the mentioned cooperation, with a highlight in presenting the online archives of preserved medieval Bulgarian charters, and
  2. give colleagues with respective research interests and expertise as well as archival and cultural institutions from Bulgaria the opportunity to present and exchange their own experiences and results in digital processing of historical, especially medieval sources.

The Department of Auxiliary Historical Sciences and Archive Studies, Philosophical Faculty, University of Hradec Králové (CZ) and ICARUS kindly invite all students of Archive Studies to take part in a workshop focused on Europe’s biggest virtual charters archive

The workshop will take place in room B 11 and will be led by Mag. Daniel Jeller from Vienna (AT). He is a historian and responsible for IT, digitization and the Monasterium portal at ICARUS. Next to his work he is programming for Digital Humanities projects and does research into the cultural implications of digitization.

All participants will be given information about the database, its origin and development. The aim of the workshop is to teach the participants how to work effectively and creatively with the database, including practical exercises.



This workshop is being organized within the EU-funded project co:op – community as opportunity. The creative archives‘ and users‘ network.

Organized by ICARUS HR, the University of Zagreb and ICARUS within the EU-funded project co:op, this first lecture in a series of lectures yet to come on “Archive topics” intents to inform archivists and information professionals, experts in the cultural, scientific and educational institutions, students and the academic community, and anyone else interested in contemporary international trends, projects and practices in the world of archives.

Gilliland is Professor and Director of the Archival Studies specialization in the Department of Information Studies, Director of the Center for Information as Evidence, Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, and a faculty affiliate of the Center for Digital Humanities at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). She is also the director of the Archival Education and Research Initiative (AERI), a global collaborative effort amongst academic institutions that seeks to promote state-of-the-art in scholarship in Archival Studies.

The Topotheque: Linking heritage institutions and communities

Organized within the EU-funded project “co:op”, ICARUS HR and ICARUS will introduce the online service tool Topotheque to the interested public in Vukovar (HR).

After the recent inauguration of ICARUS HR, representatives of the Croatian ICARUS network will pressent current international initiatives and projects dedicated to the possibilities of cooperation and common development of information infrastructure in the presentation of cultural heritage.

Archive Topics: project @ Sveučilišni računarski centar u Zagrebu

This lecture of the lecture series “Archive Topics” is dedicated to the Slovenian e-archives project The project is founded by European Union within the framework of the Operative Programme Competitiveness and cohesion 2014-2020 and it’s run by the Slovenian government and all public archives.

Experts from the Archives of Republic of Slovenia will present strategies, plans and activities regarding the development and implementation of e-archives in the Slovenian public archives service. The programme is open to the public and will be held in University Computer Centre in Zagreb, starting at 10 am.
