DIALOG CITY UNCONFERENCE @ Technische Hochschule Aschaffenburg

DIALOG CITY Unconference

In recent years, the term Smart City has become deeply embedded in our language and thought patterns. It means a digitized city that uses technology to collect data, control processes and offer services. This ranges from electronic administration via self-driving public transport to smart solutions for building management. Almost every area that is data-intensive can be recorded, analysed and optimized accordingly. The European project DIALOG CITY was born out of the conviction that digital transformation is more of a mindset rather than a purely technical innovation.

Hence the overall goal of DIALOG CITY is to create a socially inclusive, environmentally friendly, and economically sustainable urban digital environment. By developing new practices on how to connect digital innovation directly to citizens’ physical participation, DIALOG CITY aims at contributing to increase access to culture through a dialogical approach… © dialog city

ICARUS Convention #30 @ Sittard & Maastricht, NL
May 3 – May 5 all-day

ICARUS Convention #30:

‘Archives and Traces of Migration’

The ICARUS Convention #30 will take place from 3rd to 5th of May 2023 in Sittard and in Maastricht, Netherlands!

It will be hosted by Archives De Domijnen/Euregional Historical Centre Sittard-Geleen, assisted by the Historical Centre Limburg and the Social Historical Centre for Limburg (NL).

Registration is closed.

The convention’s thematic priority

Thematic priority of the convention will be how archives in (and outside) Europe deal with migration and especially with the archival material regarding the migration. Do they own any materials about migration, do they actively collect them? Are these materials being made visible (and how)? Are archives working together with universities to scientifically research and evaluate them? And with museums to present them?

Migration is a theme that is very important in our days, but migration is, of course, of all times. Traces of it are therefore visible in archives throughout Europe. We will see and hear examples how these kinds of archives have been handled in the past and how they are handled now. Can we learn from each other?

There will be time to present and discuss the theme (participants of the Creative Europe-project AToM (Archives and Traces of Migration) will take the lead in this). There will be discussion, exchange, the sharing of experiences and the development of possible solutions and strategies will be explored.

But also other projects in which archives in Europe are involved, like the TimeMachines, will be invited to present themselves. Also projects of the Icarus-community (like Monasterium, Matricula and the very successful Topotheque) will be given the chance to give an update of their progress at this meeting.

The convention’s structure

The convention will act as a sharing place where professionals and user communities will have the possibility to present, discuss and share their ideas, visions and concrete projects, with the aim to prepare new partnerships, as well as the planning and implementation of possible new projects.
During the three days of the convention there will be the possibility to do presentations, workshops, discussions, ‘exchange-tables’ and ‘cooperation-tables’.

ICARUS CONVENTION #31
Nov 8 – Nov 10 all-day

Common Archival Heritage

Preservation, Accessibility, Digitisation

The State Archives of the Republic of North Macedonia, together with ICARUS, has the honour to organize the 31st ICARUS Convention in Skopje and Ohrid.

The first two days of the Convention (8 and 9 November) will take place in Skopje, and the last day of the Convention (10 November) is planned to be held in Ohrid, a town which is a part of UNESCO’s World Heritage.

As most of historical processes are not geographically or otherwise isolated, archives worldwide, whether national, regional, or even personal, have also a mission to keep and present documents concerning common history. Hence the intention of the 31st ICARUS Convention is to shed light to the importance of common archival heritage that should be
a base for a fruitful scientific and cultural cooperation as well as for the promotion of good neighbourly relations.

We expect participants to highlight the archival heritage of international/regional interest, its preservation, accessibility,
digitization, especially its presence at online archival platforms and development of digital research tools.

Moreover, the contributions will be related to the provenance and preservation of the archival heritage in the context of political, legal and ethical issues.
