New Corporate Partner: Artefactual Systems Inc.

It is our great pleasure to welcome a new corporate member to our ICARUS network:

With the accession of the Canadian-based company Artefactual Systems Inc., we have gained a highly valuable, internationally renowned institution as partner. As a development company, Artefactual provides professional services and open-source software and is dedicated to the stewardship of open-source digital access and preservation software.

At the heart of the company’s innovations are its flagship platforms, Archivematica and AtoM (Access to Memory). These are widely adopted, open-source tools that empower archives, libraries, museums, and governments to manage, preserve, and share digital collections on a large scale.

Artefactual aims to ensure that cultural memory persists over time and space, guaranteeing that evidence from the past is cared for in the present and can be trusted in the future. The company views digital access and preservation as an ongoing practice rather than a solved problem. Consequently, their software is merely a means to an end. “We want the data to outlast the systems that built, preserved, or stored it so that it’s usable into the future.”

This focus on the data rather than the software aligns well with our beliefs at ICARUS: preserving the memory of the past is paramount, and the methods used to achieve this may evolve over time.

We’re happy to have Artefactual on board and extend a warm welcome to the ICARUS family!
